Middleware Overview & Scope

Concept and Scope

The dAIEdge middleware is a hybrid solution designed to interconnect various elements developed by the project partners. It serves as a bridge layer sitting between different software components and systems to facilitate communication and coordination.

Our middleware combines features from three main categories:

  • Communication Middleware: It allows the sending of requests and supports asynchronous communication between network nodes.
  • Application Middleware: It provides management and coordination features for distributed systems, ensuring that different parts of the dAIEDGE ecosystem can work together effectively.
  • IoT Middleware: It enables communication with entities that use IoT devices for data collection or as distributed execution platforms.

Key Challenges

A primary goal is to make the middleware light and robust, avoiding it becoming a bottleneck. The architecture is designed to handle key challenges such as:

  • Security across a decentralized network.
  • The heterogeneity of connected nodes and devices.
  • Integration with external data providers and platforms.
  • Sustainability through green, low-power Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT).
